Green Roofing

Green roofs are plantings that are placed on the roof of a building. Green roof technology is not new. After decades of practice, space-cramped Germans have honed the practice to a fine art. Apart from the attractive appearance of a Green Roof there are also multiple economic and ecological benefits. From small surfaces on garages to roof top patios - no roofing surface is too big or small to benefit from green roofing.

Advantages
  • Reduced Energy Costs: Green roofs have been shown to reduce heating and cooling costs from 25-50% for the floor directly below roof. They significantly slow a building’s heat gain and loss. As a result, the HVAC systems of buildings equipped with green roofs operate more efficiently, translating into lower energy costs for the building.
  • Reduced Renovation Costs: Green Roofs protect the exterior of the roof from UV rays, extreme temperature fluctuations, punctures and other physical damage.
  • Reduced Sewer Costs: A Green Roof reduces water run-off from 10-50%, therefore helping to alleviate the risk of flooding, sewer overflows and subsequent discharge.
  • Better Use of Space: Roof Gardens offer additional space for leisure without spending money on expensive building and grounds.
  • Reduction of Urban “Heat-Island Effect”: The surfaces of Green Roofing and Paving filter and bind dust and other harmful materials out of the city’s air. Additionally, green roofs improve the microclimate by cooling and humidifying the surrounding air.
  • Reduced Noise Level: The growth media, plants, and layers of trapped air in a Green Roof system serve as excellent sound insulators. Green Roofs can reduce the indoor noise pollution from the outdoors by as much as 10 decibels.
  • Natural Habitat for Animals and Plants: A large part of surfaces that would normally be sacrificed to developments can be compensated by landscapes and roofs that use Green Roofing and Paving.
  • Sloped Roof Design: This product is unique in that it provides architects the ability to work with sloped roofs.
